Russia’s Rublev Wins Qatar ExxonMobil Open Title for the Second Time in His Career

Russian player Andrey Rublev was crowned champion of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open men’s tennis tournament (ATP 500 category) for the second time in his career after defeating Britain's Jack Draper today.
Rublev, the fifth seed in the tournament and the 2020 champion, secured victory over his British opponent, the eighth seed, in a three-set battle (7-5, 5-7, 6-1) in the final, which lasted two hours and four minutes on the center court of the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.
His Excellency Mr. Nasser bin Ghanim Al Khelaifi, President of the Qatar Tennis, Squash, Padel, and Badminton Federation, presented the Golden Falcon trophy to the Russian champion and awarded the runner-up trophy to the British player. The ceremony was attended by Karim Alami, the tournament director, and Darren Woods, CEO and Chairman of ExxonMobil.
This victory marks Rublev’s second title in Qatar and the 17th title of his professional career. The 27-year-old world No. 10 has now defeated Draper in all four encounters between them.
Rublev began his 33rd edition Qatar ExxonMobil Open campaign with straight-set victories over Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik in the first round and Portugal’s Nuno Borges in the second round.
In the quarterfinals, he overcame second seed Alex de Minaur of Australia in three sets, before defeating Canada’s Félix Auger-Aliassime in another three-set battle in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, Jack Draper, ranked 16th in the world, was playing in his first-ever Qatar ExxonMobil Open final. He started his journey with straight-set wins over Australian Alexei Popyrin in the first round and Australia’s Christopher O’Connell in the second round.
In the quarterfinals, Draper edged past Italy’s Matteo Berrettini in three sets, before booking his spot in the final with another three-set victory over Czech player Jiří Lehečka in the semifinals.
