Arabic athlete Ons Jabuer has been granted a wildcard into the main draw of the 2015 Qatar Total Open which starts next week.

Jabuer, aged 20 and ranked 128 in the world was born in Tunisia but represents more than just her country of birth. She is the face of Arabic tennis as the highest ranked female tennis player from the region.

In the past year her results around the world have shown a remarkable improvement from a player who had a large amount of success as a junior where she won the girls singles title at the 2011 French Open after being a finalist the previous year.

She won three rounds in qualifying at 2015 Australian Open before falling to former world No.2 Vera Zvonareva in the main draw. She also qualified at the 2014 US Open and made the second round eventually losing to 18th seed Andrea Petkovic in three sets.

Other top results last year saw her make the second round of Seoul and Linz WTA tournaments after winning through qualifying. She has a career best result of quarter-finals which was achieved at the Baku WTA event in 2013.

“The QTF has seen the improved performance of Ons from a top junior to someone who is now very competitive as a player on the WTA tour around the world. We are proud of Ons and her performances over the past year. She is improving all of the time and this is reward with her being given a wildcard.

“Ons represents Arabic nations proudly and for the QTF this is important that she shows the international sporting community that Arabic sportspeople can represent themselves at the highest level of the game of tennis,” said Qatar Total Open Tournament Director Saad Al Mohannadi.

Also confirmed as singles wildcards are No.8 Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark and two-time former Qatar Total Open winner, Victoria Azarenka.

The doubles draw will feature the popular Indian player Sania Mirza.

The tournament is held at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex, 23-28 February with qualifying taking place 21-22 February. Tickets are now available at City Center, Landmark, Lagoona, Villaggio, on-site at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex and from www.qatartennis.org
