As the 1st Qatar ITF Future hosted by Qatar Tennis Federation is being played this week, the tournament's No. 2 seed, Yannick Mertenz of Belgian, took time to give his thoughts on the event, prior to his match against countryman, Jonas Merckx:

"I‘m very pleased of my participation in this future tournament organized by Qatar. Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to participate before. Actually, I’m not surprised of this high-quality organization of the tournament because I have previously participated in the qualifying at Qatar Exxon Mobil Open 2010. The level of the tournament is obviously successful compared to other sport events held in other countries."

He added, "I came here to win and I hope can achieve what I came for, among these professional players"

Mertenz defeated Merckx, 7-5, 6-0, to face Spain's Javier Paulgar in the next round.

Tournament Director, Saad Al Mohannadi, said, "We continuously organize this series of tournaments because we believe these kind of events provide our national team players the experience and opportunity to enhance their skills on courts."

In the doubles competetion, the team of Moussa Shannan of Qatar and Paul Montiban of Netherland reached the quarterfinals after defeating the Dutch team, and No. 4 seeds, of Kevin and Scott Griekspoor in the first round.

The 1st Qatar ITF Futures is being played through Saturday and will be followed by the 2nd Qatar ITF Futures which begins next week.
