Ireland's Sam Barry Wins 1ST Smash ITF Future

Sam Barry of Ireland defeated Liam Broady of Great Britain, 7-6(2) 6-4, in the final of the 1st Smash ITF Futures on Saturday night at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.

The team of Adam Chadaj and Dominik Schulz defeated the duo of Luke Bambridge and Ivan Hoyt 1-6 7-6(4) [10-4] in the doubles final.

Tournament Director Saad Al Mohannadi said of this event, " It is a great start for the upcoming ITF event series, our congratulations for the winners and we wish all the players the best of luck in the 2nd Smash ITF tournament.” He added, "During the last week, high caliber matches were played, players were playing intensively and that met our expectation for such an event.”

The trophy presentation took place at 7:00pm and in attendance were Tariq Zainal, Assitant Secretary General of the QTF; Mohammed Al Subaie, Board Member; and Saad Al Mohannadi, Tournament Director.

Along with the final with the 1st Smash ITF Futures, qualifying matches for the 2nd Smash ITF Futures were being played on Saturday - with 32 players from 20 different countries aiming for a spot in the main draw.

This tournament is one of the ITF Futures series events held by Qatar Tennis Federation each year to provide our National teams the opportunity to compete with international players to enhance their skills and abilities.
