3rd Qatar ITF Futures Begins Today

October 8, 2012 – Doha, Qatar – the 3rd Qatar ITF Futures 2012 begins today, Monday, October 8, 2012, with last week’s 2nd Qatar ITF Futures 2012 winner, Clement Reix of France looking to win consecutive titles in Doha. The Qatar Tennis Federation is hosting the second of three consecutive weeks of International Tennis Federation events.

On Saturday, Clement Reix, the No. 1 seed in the 2nd Qatar ITF Futures who is the No. 1 seed this week as well, defeated England’s Olivier Golding in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. In doubles, the No. 3 Czech duo of Roman Jebavy and Oktar Lucak defeated the second seeds, Adam Chadaj and Andriej Kapas of Poland in straight sets to lift the title, 6-4, 6-4.

As Reix looks to win this week as well, he faces stiff competition from No. 2 seed Benjamin Balleret of Monaco, No. 3 seed Golding, No. 4 seed Marek Semjan of Slovakia, No. 5 seed Roman Jebavy of the Czech republic, No. 6 seed Andriej Kapas of Poland, No. 7 seed Alexandros Jakupovic of Greece and No. 8 seed Abdullah Maqdas of Kuwait.

Though no Qatari players made it through the qualifying rounds, wildcards for the main draw have been granted to local players Mousa Shanan Zayed, Abdulla Al Mohamoud and Jabor Mohammed Ali Mutawa.

Tournament director, Saad Al Mohannadi, says of hosting this week’s event, “After a very successful Qatar ITF Futures event last week that saw very competitive matches, we welcome yet another incredible international field of players to Doha for this week’s tournament. With players from the National Team competing against players from around the world, the Qatar Tennis Federation is able to highlight the strides it is making in growing the game throughout the country.”

Matches begin at 4:00pm daily at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex and admission is free.
