1st Qatar Asian Tournament Final Day

Yemen's Amr Hassan was the star of the show in the final day of the 1st Qatar Asian Tournament as he grabbed the boys singles and doubles titles.

The unseeded Yemeni youngster defeated number one seed Mohamed Al Azhary in the final on Friday in two straight sets 7-6 (4) 6-2.

He then played the doubles final along his compatriot Samer Thabet and defeated Syrian duo of Mohamed Al Azhary and Mohamed Naw also in two straight sets 7-6 (4) 6-2.

Meanwhile, India's Saranya Nagbal won the girls singles title by defeating Shaimaa Al Olfi of Yemen in the final 6-3 6-2, to add it to the doubles title she secured yesterday along her compatriot Sanjana Sudhir.

Mr. Tareq Zainal, Assistant general secretary of the Qatar Tennis Federation (QTF) and Mr. Sultan Khalfan Tournament Manager attended the final match on Friday, and he presented the trophies and prizes to the winners and runner ups.

"The level of competition was very high during this tournament, it shows how the Asian tennis developed rapidly during the last few years, our players benefited very much from taking part in the tournaments and playing against Asia's best. The experience they gained will surely help them during future events" Mr. Zainal said.

Qatar Tennis Federation will also organize the 2nd Qatar Asian Tournament during the period between March 28th and April 1st. The qualification stage for the singles competition in that tournament will kick off on Saturday March 26th with 16 players battling for four spots in the main round.
